METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it has not penetrated the surface yet, we are sometimes able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a warm and sticky mess. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum. Then we move the scraper slowly under the gum and the whole piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above process is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove gum that is already black, or is already smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we do not use very high pressure because that will sometimes damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses more pressure than needed to clean commercial concrete. These surfaces can be damaged much easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our gum removal service.
